Nintendo Switch fans have a huge few months ahead of them.

September will see the launch of the paid-for Switch Online service and then Pokemon Let’s Go and Super Smash Bros Ultimate in the following months.

But ahead of these high-profile releases an exciting new feature for the Nintendo Switch could have been revealed.

Dataminers have managed to find out that the Switch’s upcoming firmware 6.0.0 has already been uploaded to Nintendo servers, Nintendo Life reported.

They have searched through the files and found out about a number of features coming to the Nintendo Switch.

The big change will be the addition of the Nintendo Switch Online service which apparently has the tagline “More Games. More Features. More Fun.”

Dataminers also found the new – and previously announced – Save Data Cloud Backup option that will be accessible from the options menu for a game.

But one of the most exciting changes is an update to the list of controllers that can be used on the Switch.

When a Nintendo Switch user pairs an officially licensed controller with the hybrid console it shows a specific icon in certain screens.

The Joy Con and Pro Controller all have their own icons with the former’s symbol changing if it’s used with both the left and right Joy Cons or just one.

But new icons that have been discovered in the leaked Nintendo Switch files suggest more controller support is coming.

Icons have been discovered for Famicom, NES and SNES controllers.

This could indicate the Nintendo Switch will soon be offering support for NES and SNES Mini controllers.

This new feature would surely go down a treat and follows on from the Wii U offering NES Mini controller support.

Or, alternatively, it could be a sign that Nintendo have officially licensed NES and SNES controllers ready to launch for the Switch.

This would add an extra level of retro authenticity when playing old school games downloaded from the Nintendo Switch eShop.

It would also be perfect for the selection of updated NES games that will be playable via the Nintendo Switch Online service once it launches.

Only time will tell what these new icons are for, but hopefully all will be revealed in a new Nintendo Direct.
